England's crucial win over Pakistan in ICC World Twenty20 England 2009

England

England beat Pakistan by 48 runs in their second match of the ICC World Twenty20 England 2009, in their must win match. It was a crucial Group B encounter of the World Twenty20 at The Oval. A fine half century by Kevin Pietersen propelled England to 185 for five in 20 overs.

England's chances of making the super eight stage hung by a thread following the humiliating defeat to the Netherlands in their opening match of
ICC World Twenty20 England 2009. But, facing early elimination from the home event, their top-order responded magnificently as they posted a challenging 185 for 5 after being sent in to bat.

Kevin Pietersen made a timely return to the side and scored a masterly 58. He was well supported by man of the match Luke Wright (34) and Owais Shah (33).

England then restricted Pakistan to 137 for 7 in their 20 overs. Though skipper Younus Khan held one end up with a defiant unbeaten 46, Pakistan failed to recover from a top order collapse.

Stuart Broad (3 for 17) caused the early damage by dismissing Kamran Akmal (6) and Salman Butt (28) with consecutive deliveries in the sixth over after Dimitri Mascarenhas had got rid off Ahmad Shahzad (4).

Younus and Shoaib Malik (20) offered resistance and revived the innings with a 46 run partnership, but the required run rate soared over 12 runs per over. And once Malik was caught behind off Wright, Younus was left stranded as his teammates came and departed in a hurry.
finally Pakistan's chased ended with a great lose.

ICC World Twenty20 England 2009

The ICC World Twenty20 England 2009 is the international Championship of Twenty20 cricket.

ICC World Twenty20 2007 Winning Indian Team

The event is organised by the sport's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament consists of 12 teams and is contested by all Test-playing nations plus qualifiers. The championship is expected to be held around every two years.

The inaugural event, the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, was staged in South Africa from 11-24 September 2007. The tournament was won by India, who become the first World T20 Champions after defeating Pakistan by 5 runs in the final at Johannesburg.

All Test-playing nations achieve automatic qualification to the tournament, with the remaining places filled by ICC associate member nations through a qualification tournament.

Qualification for the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 came from the results of the first cycle of the ICC World Cricket League - a 50-over format league for non-Test playing nations. The two finalists of the Division One tournament - Kenya and Scotland - qualified for the inaugural World Twenty20 tournament alongside the Test-playing nations. Qualification for subsequent tournaments, beginning with the 2009 event, is achieved through a special event using the twenty20 format.

The 2009 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier was played between 2 August and 5 August 2008 in Stormont, Belfast in Northern Ireland. The six competing teams were: Bermuda, Canada, Ireland, Kenya, The Netherlands and Scotland, with the top three earning a place at the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England.

The competition was won by Ireland and the Netherlands, who shared the trophy after rain forced the final to be abandoned without a ball bowled. Both teams qualified for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 finals in England. Due to the withdrawal of Zimbabwe from the competition, the two finalists are joined by third-placed Scotland.

The tournament format for the 2007 edition consisted of four stages which will be same for 2009:

Group Stage - Four groups of three teams (two seeds and one qualifier) with two games per team and the top two teams qualifying for the Super 8s.

"Super 8s" - Two four-team groups playing three games each. The make up of the groups was pre-decided based upon all seeds qualifying; if a seed failed to qualify the beneficiary took their allotted place in their respective group.

Semi-Finals - Group Winners playing the runner up of the other Super 8 Group.
